Story Board

Below i have scanned in my story board that i drew out on paper.

Timeplan

Below is a screenshot of my time plan that i created to allow me to sort my time efficiently and well organised to get the best of the time that i have in order to do my coursework. I have used icalendar on my computer because it then allowed me to sync it to my iphone so i could look at what i had to do anywhere.

Below is 2 screenshots of icalendar.

Problems

I have had many issues with my title sequence due to permission and new ideas. I have finally thought of an idea which would be good to do as well as possible to achieve in the short space of time. I will have to find new actors because the actors I listed before were only available from Monday (27th) onwards which will be too late for me. I want to film on Saturday and to do this I will need to find a new actor. On the next few posts I will be uploading my new shot list as well as a story board and a table of planning.

Permission

I have received an email from the train company telling me I CANT use the train station to film. Therefore i have to find a new place to film my existing  idea or think of a new idea all together.

Below is a screen shot of my email.

HD camera

On Tuesday i got to have a go with the new collage cameras. They are in HD which will make our title sequence look so much better and more professional. I really enjoyed using them as they are very professional and effective. I noticed that the sound on this camera is a lot better because you can actually listen to what sound is being picked up which makes you think more about the area and the ambient sounds. The new cameras allow me to do a focus pull on the camera rather than editing it in and also let me change the lens so i can fit it with a lens that gets my whole area in (wide lens). These cameras are a lot of fun and will benefit me greatly.

location

I sent an email to the Malvern council asking them for their permission do use the Malvern link train station. They then replied asking me to contact another person who was in charge of the trains at the location. They also sent me a link with all the rules and regulations that i had to abide by. When reading these i noticed i was not allowed any time of lighting. Realizing this i think it would be difficult to film at night time without a small amount of lighting to make it visible to the audience. As i got further down the email i also noticed that they would expect a pay for me to film there of £1000. I then decided if they wanted me to pay it would be better for me to go else where as i do not have that kind of money. Therefore i need to decide on a new idea very soon as my filming deadline is approaching fast.

Filming

I have planned to start filming on Tuesday night. With Tuesday night to do any pick ups that i may need. Despite this cutting it a bit fine this is the only days that my actors and reserve actors can make.I will have to make sure i stay focused and get all the shots i want or even possible shots as my final deadline is approaching.

Rehearsal

Because time is tight for my sequence I don't think it will be a good idea to set a day for a rehearsal. On the night of the filming I will show/tell the actor what I want to do and film them doing it a couple of times because then I can get as much footage as I need to try and edit my footage.

Filming

I have planned on started filming this weekend. I plan on doing it at night and at a train station and I believe doing it at the weekend will mean no people will be there while filming allowing me to create the image in my head with out distraction of anyone else. However if this is unable to happen due to weather or actors the filming will commence next week. Even though this is very tight for filming hopefully i will be able to get it shot all in one night.

Actors

At the moment I plan on having Jonathan Fox to do the acting. however he is very busy and i feel that when I wish to do the filming he will be busy. I have now lined up a back up in case he cant make it. This actor is called Katie Sampson. Jonathan Fox shown on the left and Katie on the right. I have chosen these characters because I believe they challenge the dominant representation of horror films as usually the character is portrayed female and weak. Despite Katie being female she has a strong look to her which I think will be as effective as using someone male. Katie is very up for being in the sequence therefore if Jon cant make it she will be my leading character.

For our title sequence we don't have any dialogue in it which means a script is not needed. We plan however to give our actor the storyboard which will allow him to see the ideas we have and allow him to add his into it also.
The story board will benefit the actor more than a script.

Target audience

I organised a group of people together to allow me to ask them about the genre supernatural horror and what there views on the ones I looked at were. At first I planned on asking them in person and film them talking however I could never find the right time to allow me to do this as some of the people worked or are at school. I then set up a Facebook group that allowed me to join anybody I wanted to it. I posted the links onto the group and then posted the questions. This way might not be as effective than asking them in person but the method still worked and was less time consuming.
I asked them the questions below for the shining...

1) Have you seen the shining?( did you like the film, was it scary).
2) Do you think its effective no characters are shown?.
3) What do you think is going to happen next?
4) Do you think this title sequence is scary?

1) No I haven't seen the Shining.
2) I think its a bit boring that its just a car.
3) I think the car is going to go into the hotel .
4) I don't think its scary because its a little boring.
Alicia brace,19,student

1) No
2) Yes, it makes me think about where the car is going and why its there.
3) I think the car is going to the ski resort place.
4) Its not scary but it builds suspense.
Katie Sampson,16,student

1) No.
2) No. Over a relatively long title sequence the anonymity made it feel bland.

3) The remote setting usually means something bad.
4) The music adds the atmosphere of fear rather than the visuals for me.
Jonathan Fox, 18, student

1) No.
2) Makes me wonder who is in the car and where its going.
3) I think we find out whos in the car and why they are there.
4) Not prticulary but the music makes you think something scary is going to happen.
Abi Smith, 14,School girl

I then asked a slightly different batch of questions for the Changeling title sequence as its slightly different.

1) Anybody seen The changeling?
2) What do you think of the characters?
3) What does the characters make you feel?
4) What do you think the titles show in what the film is about?
5) Are these titles scarier than the shining. Why?
6) Which title sequence is better as a super natural horror?

1) No.
2) The three pushing the car are seen to be friendly with the woman and the kid annoyingly preppy.
3) I like the group of three, they make me feel part of their family while watching.
4) No idea but this works as it allows the viewer to keep guessing.
5) More shock tactics rather than real scare.
6) The shining as it reveals a lot less through anonymity.
Jonathan Fox, 18, Student

1) No.
2) They seem ordinary like a normal family.
3) They make me feel normal. Don't have an effect on me.
4) A family on holiday. If you didn't read content or watch film you would think its a comedy or an action.
5) Its more tense than the shining but not scarier.
6) The shining because no characters a re shown it makes you think more because of it and the music is very scary.
Abi Smith,15,School girl

I have officially decided that my location will be Malvern train station as its quite built up which will allow me to use the buildings to create shadows as well as it being large to create lots of interesting shots.
